Representation of “Broad” Falloff Curves for Dissociation and Recombination Reactions

چکیده
Expressions for representing the pressure dependence of unimolecular dissociation and the reverse recombination reactions are compared. Situations are considered where the broadening of the corresponding falloff curves is particularly pronounced, i.e. where broadening factors at the center of the falloff curves, Fcent, are very small and falloff curves correspondingly becomevery “broad”. Such situations arise when unimolecular reactions of molecules with large numbers of low-frequency modes and high-temperature situations are considered. Recombination reactions of polyatomic species in atmospheric chemistry and dissociation reactions of large molecules in combustion are the fields of application of the present results. While previously proposed expressions for asymmetric broadening factors showed artifacts when Fcent decreased to values below about 0.4, alternative functions are describedwhich avoid these problems for situationswhere Fcent decreases to values far below 0.1.

Prediction of Reduced Falloff Curves for Recombination Reactions at Low Temperatures
Strong collision falloff curves for barrierless recombination reactions at low temperatures are calculated taking into account transitional modes only. Specific rate constants k(E, J ) from statistical adiabatic channel/classical trajectory (SACM/CT) calculations are used. Broadening factors of the falloff curves are found to depend only weakly on the temperature. A systematic analysis of the i...
متن کاملTemperature and pressure dependence of ion-molecule association and dissociation reactions: the N2(+) + N2 (+ M) <--> N4+ (+ M) reaction.
Thermal dissociation and the reverse association reactions of molecular ions can be represented within the same framework as unimolecular reactions of neutral molecules. However, because of different intra- and intermolecular interaction potentials, some differences between ionic and neutral systems should also be expected. Starting from these generalities, the present article analyzes the temp...
متن کاملRevisiting falloff curves of thermal unimolecular reactions.
Master equations for thermal unimolecular reactions and the reverse thermal recombination reactions are solved for a series of model reaction systems and evaluated with respect to broadening factors. It is shown that weak collision center broadening factors F(cent) (wc) can approximately be related to the collision efficiencies β(c) through a relation F(cent) (wc) ≈ max {β(c) (0.14), 0.64(±0.03...
متن کاملThe dissociation/recombination reaction CH4 (+M) ⇔ CH3 + H (+M): a case study for unimolecular rate theory.
The dissociation/recombination reaction CH(4) (+M) ⇔ CH(3) + H (+M) is modeled by statistical unimolecular rate theory completely based on dynamical information using ab initio potentials. The results are compared with experimental data. Minor discrepancies are removed by fine-tuning theoretical energy transfer data. The treatment accounts for transitional mode dynamics, adequate centrifugal ba...
